Alice Peterson has been a private piano teacher since January 2000. She has been connecting people with music in a variety of ways for several additional decades. The focus of her current studio, the JOY IN MUSIC Piano Studio, is adult learning. Many of her students started as total beginners at the piano; others are refreshing their skills after some years away. Alice sees music as a gift from God meant for all, not only for specialists, and delights in helping people develop confidence and discover the joy in making music. It’s not a race, it’s a journey is her favorite phrase.

Alice started piano study at age eight, continuing into adulthood. She returned to college as an adult specifically for music education and later trained in Recreational Music Making (RMM) for adults over several years through national conferences.

RMM distinctives include a relaxed atmosphere with emphasis on your goals; teachers as guides and partners; and a focus on finding joy in the process.

Alice teaches year-round. Her approach is to encourage JOY in making music, to teach the sequential SKILLS necessary to play music, and inspire CONFIDENCE in approaching music. Alice is always learning and growing musically and shares music at retirement homes and as a church musician on a regular basis. She is a member of the Music Teachers’ National Association, Maine Music Teachers’ Association and a founder of the Southern Maine Music Teachers’ Association.
